Acupuncture

Acupuncture is just one modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and involves the insertion of painless, filament-like needles into specific points on the body.

A fundamental premise of TCM is that the body has “Channels”, mapped much like the pathways of our circulatory and nervous system in Western medicine.  Or, on a much broader scale, like the meridians that map the earth’s surface.  These pathways run along the body and carry what is known to us in Chinese Medicine as “Qi” (pronounced “Ch-eee”).  Qi is the functional, animating force that makes our body tick and can be likened to ATP in Western terms.Earth Meridian Vector

Channels have specific points along their pathway with distinct biological and emotional functions. Based on the assessment and diagnosis of a variety of signs and symptoms often unseen in the Western world to have a correlate, a classically trained acupuncturist will create point “prescriptions” to stimulate various changes within the biological and psychological systems.
